How to Understand the Powerful Meanings Behind Dragon Tattoo Designs

All over the world, dragon tattoo designs have been popular and still are. The great thing about having a dragon tattoo is that you can have it on basically any part of your body and it will look great. Dragons on their own are mystical creatures that are known only to exist in folklore and in myths, but this could be the reasons as to why dragon tattoo designs are one of the most popular in the world.
Depending on which way the dragon is designed and portrayed, dragon tattoos can emit many different emotions, some of which include anger and hate right through to elegance and adoration. Due to the fact that so many cultures offer their own depictions of exactly how dragons are and what they look like, people that are looking to have the tattoos done have such a wide variety to choose from.
The designs of these tattoos are just about endless, so when you decide that you are going to settle with one of the many designs available, make sure you choose the right design and on the right part of your body. It is great that you can arrange your dragon so that it emits something that suits you. A dragon can be personalized in more than one way. Make it into a dragon that you have always wanted on your body, but still with meaning.
According to legends, dragons are said to have originated from the Far East, in certain countries like Japan, China and Korea. It is said that the dragons were mainly used to guard valuable treasures so that no one could pass them and get to whatever they were guarding. In this case you could use dragon tattoo designs like this to protect something of yours, like your heart. Dragons were not always bad as perceived, and they weren't always the fire-breathing monsters people made them out to be.
When artists are constructing dragon tattoo designs they tend to keep the body and face similar. With the Chinese dragons, they typically have longer torsos as well as shorter legs, but in truth, most dragons are more like sea monsters or snakes than the dragons that feature in European fairytales. Dragon's eyes normally look harsh and show wisdom, so if it is the serious look you are going for it will be an original dragon.
One of the main features of any one of the dragon tattoo designs is the color of the dragon. The color is very important as it is the main characteristic in the dragon and the look it is supposed to portray. When it comes to Chinese dragon tattoos, these are normally done in yellow, orange and red.
The medieval dragon is also one of the popular dragon tattoo designs of today, but sometimes these were used to reference the dragon in evil ways, which is a look that isn't always wanted.

Chinese and Japanese Tribal Dragon Tattoos

Dragon tattoos are one of the most popular designs all over the world. It can go in any category, whether abstraction, naturalistic, dedication, stylized or combination tattoos.
Throughout history, dragon tattoos have never been out of fashion and had been used as a symbol in some parts of the world. It can be drawn as menacing or regal depending on your choice of design.
Dragon tattoos come in two popular forms: the Chinese or Japanese dragon of the east with its long, snake-like body and the European dragon of the west with its powerful wings and long neck. The European dragon usually symbolizes power and fear, a depiction of evil where as the Chinese dragon usually symbolizes unity and conformity, a depiction of good.
You can find many different designs of dragon tattoos in different forms and colors. Some of these dragon designs have additional background scenery where they are depicted flying in the clouds, swimming in the ocean, crawling on top of mountains or ravaging small villages. But the most common depiction of a dragon is being done as tribal dragon tattoos due to both its simplicity (the majority color being in either black or gray with the additional color to highlight the dragon) and its complexity.
Most often, the eastern dragons are the ones being used as a basis for the designs for the tribal dragon tattoos. Chinese and Japanese designs are the ones most common to be created into tattoos. Both have similar features: long, snake-like body, wingless and have horns. The only difference between these two dragons is their claws. Japanese dragons have only three claws where as the Chinese dragons have five. Their long, wingless bodies are less complicated to draw and since tribal tattoos are mostly being done in one color (two at the most), the outcome of these dragon are more elegant looking and sophisticated.
Though, some in today's society, eastern dragons that are being created into tribal dragon tattoos is being depicted as a symbol of fear and power; a contrast to the real symbolism of the eastern dragons.
Some people today would ask for a tribal dragon tattoo when they want to look tough or powerful. They would look for the best dragon design and ask to have it done. But there are still those who see the eastern dragon as a symbol of wisdom and would ask for a dragon as a sign of respect. And still, others would just like a tribal dragon tattoo because the artistry is very well made and it looks good in the body.
The most common place to find a tribal dragon would be on the whole arm length or at the back.
There are still some parts of the world where dragon tattoos are still used as a symbol in society. Whether they are being used as a status symbol in an organization or a clan, they are a mark of respect and power to the people who still value them.

Japanese Tattoo Art - The Tattoo As a Part of Underworld Gangsters

The land of the rising sun, that's how people describe Japan. This is where different types of people are situated, from popular celebrities, electronic experts, robots and gangsters. In addition to that, culture and tradition have a huge influence in their everyday living. The Japanese are also excellent when it comes to visual designs. One of the popular designs used until now is the Japanese tattoo art.
History of Japanese tattooing
Archeologists concluded that tattoos started from early settlers in Japan or the so called "Ainu" tribe. Back to the early civilization, tattoos were used as facial identities. This is how people determined what tribe they belonged and what tradition they performed. Japanese tattoo art has been present for around centuries. But as years passed, simple tattoo designs turned into innovative and meaningful images. Aside from flowers and dragons, Japanese are now featuring endless choices including heroes and weapons used in wars.
Tattoo designs featured by gangsters of Japan
Japan is also known for underworld gangsters like Yakuza for example. In the past, tattoos are illegal to Japanese people and this thing was distinguished from the rest of the population. Although, there were people who have tattoos in their bodies, still authorities marked tattooed individuals as criminals. These individuals have discriminated the whole people in Japan. This is the main reason of forming underworld gangster known as "Yakuza".
Women as part of gangland society
Since then, tattoos were worn by these people symbolizing status and dedication. As featured in several movies, Yakuza tattoos involved magnificent styles and full body masterpieces. The design is quite difficult. It comprises complex curves, circles and Japanese symbols that only tattoo experts can do. During early years, Yakuza's members only involved men. Today, many women also become integral parts of Japan's gangland society.
As part of the gangster's tradition, wives and girlfriends of top Yakuza members often undergo extensive tattooing. Even in some countries, Japanese tattoo art was still in used. Try watching WWE and you'll see that some wrestlers get inked with these designs, including the world's famous Rey Mysterio and Japanese's pride Rikishi.
Japanese tattoo art is increasingly popular in the world today. Thanks to people of Japan for creating these meaningful images. Regardless of gangsters, the art of tattoo will always represent freedom for everyone. If you're interested with this kind of art, you should decide first. You should understand that tattoos are lifetime responsibilities. In order to avoid regrets in the future, you should have the willingness to carry it for the rest or your life.

Awesome tattoo sleeves high quality work, very detailed design overall.
Tattoo Sleeves
"Tattoo Sleeves" Tattoo, originally uploaded by skeletonandkey.
The one on the left side (my right arm) is Christy Brooker at Artcore Studios in Seattle, Washington. Christy completed this sleeve at the beginning of December 2008, almost exactly one year since she had started. As you can tell in this photo, it all looks very new and I still have some Burt's Bees Hand Salve on it.

The one on the right side (my left arm) is Victor Policheri from when he was working at Apocalypse Tattoo in Seattle, Washington. We started it in, I want to say the end of 2004 or maybe early 2005, and completed it 2 years later.

Tiger Lily Tattoo

Flower tattoos for the most part are commonly preferred mostly by women, they are one of the most popular designs among tattoos. There are a wide array of flower designs to choose from ranging from the common rose tattoos, the hibiscus flower a Hawaiian traditional design and many others including the "lily flowers". A tiger lily flower tattoo as the one pictured below can be a great design to choose for a flower tattoo. It is a flower that can be loved purely for its beauty and attractiveness. It has gorgeous flower petals with a beautiful assortment of exotic colors, many people particularly women simply can't stop admiring its charm and appealingness.
What does a lily symbolize?

Some meanings that represent the the lily flower include purity, majesty, innocence, wealth and pride. Those that reflect the meaning of the tiger lily flower could be pride or prosperity and the words "I dare you to love me" can also be attached to the meaning of the tiger lily.

This is my submission for Project 365: Week Thirteen - Yellow.

I got this tattoo on my upper arm and shoulder in spring 2005. It depicts a tiger lily flanked by two roses with faces inside. The design is loosely inspired by the living garden scene in Through the Looking Glass.

Chinese character symbol tattooed in white ink .The meaning of the symbol is "To travel" or "Journey".; This is my 3rd tattoo, and my first white ink tattoo. It is only about 24 hours old in this photo, so it's still raised and crusty looking. So far, it seems to be healing nicely, and is a nice bright white. I hope it stays that way! This was the first white tattoo the artist has done (which should have made me run away), but he's been doing it professionally for over 20 years. It's small enough to cover up if it ends up a disaster!

Weird Tattoo

"Weird Tattoo" Tattoo, originally uploaded by Colleen AF Venable.

Weird leg tattoo of connect the dots.; Collage created for publisher who is including me in a coffee table book about weird tattoos called INKED: Clever, Odd and Outragous Tattoos. Woo! They might use this one or one of the awesome ones Chris took.

Ever since I was little I joked about getting my birthmarks numbered--that I was one big connect-the-dots tattoo that made a "me". When I got older I obsessed over the idea of an extremely visible invisible tattoo. I then worked for four years on a project I called "The Stalking and Murdering of a Childhood Giraffe" (EXPLAINED HERE) were I spent four years searching for a giraffe I had as a child and taking pictures of any I came across that were "rejects". 1,712 rejected giraffe photographs later, after I finally found the giraffe (with the help of over 50 friends or "giraffe hunters") I got this tattoo.

Dave C. Wallin who made it did an AMAZING job considering how small the numbers had to be. Pretty sure I'm not the first person in the universe to come up with this idea, but I've yet to see another connect-the-dots tattoo. Got my tattoo on August 25, 2007. The design was based on a really geometric giraffe drawing I once saw (if anyone can find the name of the original artist I would be super appreciative!), but I modified it to have spots and be even more box-like. I love this tattoo so much...which makes it hard to walk down the street without starring at my own calf.

Treasure Chest Side Tattoo

Treasure Chest Side Tattoo,tattoos,tattoo designs
"Treasure Chest Side Tattoo" Tattoo, originally uploaded by Adrienne V..

Colorful girls side tattoo of a treasure chest, roses and word quote "Some Pursue Happiness, Others Create It" a great tattoo design that represents personal aspects of life; Done by Bryan Burk at Spotlight Tattoo, Hollywood, CA. Third session about 4hr on April 6, 2008. (Total around 9 hours.)

Mostly healed. Finally finished. SO happy with it!

I'll put down the explanation again:

I was fed up with so many people complaining about how crappy different aspects of their lives were, whether it be their job, girlfriend, friendships... but not doing anything about it! The treasure chest is to represent your future, and it's up to you what's in it, if it's going to be filled with jewels and greatness or just salt water and sea weed. You create your own happiness!! It's also quite easy to create happiness for people around you if you just apply yourself.

Always and Forever Tattoo

Always and Forever Tattoo,tattoos,tattoo designs
"Always and Forever Tattoo" Tattoo, originally uploaded by Jemal.

Heart and roses banner tattoo, always and forever; No, it's not a good use of my money at this point, but I don't much care. It makes me feel good and emphasizes to the world (and Sierra in particular) how important Kellie was and always will be in my life.

Ronnie at Art With a Pulse Tattoo modified the Heart-Kellie-Rose that he did for our 8th anniversary last February by adding the Always and Forever above and below, the leaves around the heart, the teal background, and a few highlights and modifications to what was already there.

The "Always & Forever" was our little thing that went at the bottom of every card we sent each other and usually followed any "game of who loves more than whom."

There are still a bunch of blood spots in this photo and because it kinda wraps around my puny forearm, it's hard to get every last bit in a picture, but I like it. It has the classic style I like, and it moves me one step closer to a sleeve.

Next up, each kid's name on each wrist. Maybe part of a band or something - I'll figure it out.
